When technology moves faster than the paperwork...

An interesting story out of the UK involving Auror, the New Zealand-founded retail crime intelligence platform.
The UK's privacy regulator took action against London's Metropolitan Police for using the platform without the necessary approvals and privacy safeguards. The action was against the police, not Auror. The police have since addressed the issues and resumed using the platform.
For LP professionals, there's a useful reminder here. Connecting CCTV, incident reporting and crime intelligence makes sharing information easier than ever. And that's a good thing. But being able to share information and being authorised to share it aren't quite the same thing.
Technology moves quickly. The paperwork still needs to keep up.
